For target practice? Maybe that's the number of people he intended to kill and killed himself once he believe that number of victims were dead? Maybe the big duck represented himself, or a main target?
On second thought...the number being 37 probably doesn't have much to do with anything. The ebay seller was selling a lot of 3 dozen ducks...so that's 36. It's like finding out he bought a carton of eggs and asking, "but WHY did he buy exactly 12 eggs?" Add the single large duck he bought and you get 37.
kellie; you've obviously done your homework. I kinda actually agree with your first comment. I have several questions; where did the ducks go? where there any ducks found in his room? Did he bring the ducks to the range?, if so, someone there must remember something weird like that; and lastly was he out of ammo, or did he just kill himself AFTER he thought he'd killed 36 "sitting ducks"...just guessing....maggotx
